Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site
Visit one of the most unique and impressive sites found in Alberta. Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is a UNESCO World Heritage Site found in MacLeod, which is jest to the west of Lethbridge. It's easily accessed from Highway 785. It's an actual buffalo jump located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
A buffalo jump, for the uninitiated is a specific area, like a cliff, where indigenous peoples would drive large groups of buffalo to in hopes they'd jump off and die. It was a way to procure large quantities of meat and pelts, rather than hunting them one by one. Head-Smashed-In is an ideal destination in southern Alberta.
