Mount Edith Cavell
Recreational enthusiasts in the northern region of Alberta have wonderful opportunities for exploration in Jasper National Park. This impressive park encompasses over 2,700,000 acres of land and is home to the Columbia Icefield, Pyramid Lake, Maligne Lake, Athabasca Falls, the Jasper Tramway and Mount Edith Cavell.
This beautiful mountain, located in the Astoria and Athabasca River valleys, was named after English nurse Edith Cavell in 1916. Cavell was killed during World War I for helping soldiers escape to the Netherlands from Belgium.
One of the prominent features of Mount Edith Cavell is Angel Glacier, hanging on the north face of the mountain, above Cavell Meadows. Enjoy hiking to the meadows for great views of the glacier and the mountain peak. Rock climbers have access to a variety of climbing routes on the mountain, including the West Ridge, East Ridge and North Face routes.
