Check out Edmonton on your next visit to Alberta
As you embark on your next trip into Edmonton, you'll find yourself surrounded by a number of unique and fun places to see and visit.
Whether you tour the campus of the University of Alberta with your soon-to-be high school graduate, or take in a joyous performance from the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, you'll find Edmonton to be an ideal travel destination at any time of year.
Edmonton is a diverse city with an impressive array of festivals throughout the year. You'll want to check out the Edmonton International Film Festival, typically held the last weekend of September through early October. Drive in from nearby Stony Plain and enjoy filmmakers and film buffs.
In late September head for the St. John's Cultural Institute, host venue of the Edmonton Accordion Extravaganza. While accordion music may have a slightly niche audience, you'll want to join them to enjoy live accordion performances. Accordion fans from nearby cities like Camrose and Rimbey make the trip annually.
Hockey fans visiting Edmonton will have choices. Visit Rexall Place, home of the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL and the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL. The NHL seasons begins in October and culminates in May, while the WHL season drops its first puck in September playing games through the end of March. During the respective seasons, drive in from nearby cities like Leduc and Westlock for exciting hockey games.
When you plan out your winter visit to Edmonton, you'll have three main choices for skiing and snowboarding. The Sunridge Ski Area is located just northwest of downtown Edmonton, while the Snow Valley Ski Club is just southwest, and the Rabbit Hill Snow Resort is further to the southwest. Skiers and boarders from cities like Sherwood Park and Edson make routine winter visits.
Your spring and summer visit to Edmonton should mean a visit to the Edmonton River Valley Park. At 22 times larger than Central Park in NYC, the Edmonton River Valley Park features 150 kilometers of trails, picnic sites, playgrounds for the kiddos, and bird watching chances.
Spring, summer, fall, or winter – no matter when you plan to visit Edmonton you're sure to find pleasant and charming accommodations, a seemingly endless amount of fun things to see and do, all culminating in a very memorable experience.
