Visiting Edmonton and Northern Alberta
Edmonton, Alberta’s Festival City, fills the spring air with music. From a Rihanna concert at Rexall Place, or a performance of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at Enmax Hall during the Northern Lights Music Festival and the 105th Edition of the Edmonton Kiwanis Music Festival, Alberta’s capital city is a great destination for music lovers of all types. West of Edmonton in Jasper, Marmot Basin offers premier spring skiing and snowboarding. Once the snow melts Jasper’s trails give outdoors enthusiasts a gateway to Canada’s largest Rocky Mountain Park. Enjoy events in northern Alberta’s cities and towns or adventure through seemingly endless outdoor expanses.
The Northern Alberta community of High Level calls itself Alberta’s Gateway to the South – at 800 kms north of Edmonton there is plenty of Alberta south of High Level. Wood Buffalo National Park, in far northern Alberta, is Canada’s largest national park. A remote outdoor preserve dedicated to the protection of free roaming bison, the community of High Level gets travelers close to the park, leaving the rest of the adventure up to the extreme outdoor adventurer.
It’s the season for an adventure along Alberta’s Iron Horse Trail. Journey from Cold Lake, 170 km northeast of Edmonton, west to Bonnyville, located on Jessie Lake, one of a dozen lakes surrounding town teeming with hungry fish. Visit Cold Lake in mid-May for Exercise Maple Flag, the NATO exercises drawing Air Forces from across the globe. A nice spring day adventure is a round trip ride on Cold Lake’s Millennium Trail from Cold Lake Marina to Cold Lake 4 Wing Base.
Bonnyville Pro Rodeo & Chuckwagon Association hosts the 2013 Bonnyville Pro Rodeo, May 24th through 26th. Kick off Saturday’s fun with the morning parade. Stake out your spot and enjoy the Bonnyville Rodeo Parade.
Let summer fun begin in southern Peace River Country at the 2013 Grande Prairie Stompede, May 29th through June 2nd. A fond farewell to outgoing Miss Stompede, Amy Foisy, who crowns the 2013 Miss Grande Prairie Stompede on Saturday 1st. Join the fun and excitement at Evergreen Park west of downtown Grande Prairie.
