Visiting Southern Alberta
As you plan your late-2016 visit into Calgary and southern Alberta, you’ll find a wide range of excellent things to see and places to explore. From the charming destinations like Banff and Innisfail, to the premier attractions like Calaway Park and the McMahon Stadium – both in Calgary – you’ll find it easy to make the most of your stay.
A trek through southern Alberta deserves, as much as anything, a good stay in Calgary. Along with Edmonton, Calgary is one of Alberta’s most luxurious and inviting cities, hosting a number of top events, festivals, and concerts, along side it’s selection of unmatched attractions. The Scotiabank Saddledome will host a number of can’t-miss live shows this fall, and the BMO Centre is Alberta’s largest convention centre.
On November 16th you can get your holiday celebrations off on the right foot. Visit the Theatre Calgary for a live performance of the Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker starting at 7 p.m.
Don’t miss one of the most iconic and legendary voices in country music this fall in Calgary. Dolly Parton, in all her glory, takes the stage at the Calgary Stampede event center on September 16th. This Leading Lady of Country takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Just over one month later, another classic voice comes to Calgary. John Fogerty will take the stage at the BMO Centre on October 21st. Check out these shows, among a slew of other, this fall – the drive in from nearby Strathmore or Airdrie is quick.
Deep in southern Alberta you can find the city of Medicine Hat. Accessed easily from the Trans Canada Highway, Medicine Hat is exceptionally welcoming during the fall, with an array of premier attractions to visit, and a batch of scheduled events to attend. Be sure you attend this year’s Fall Into Christmas Fine Art & Handcraft Market held at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede from October 14th through 16th.
You can keep the holiday celebration going when you visit Okotoks. From November 11th to 26th visit the Rotary Performing Arts Centre for a live performance of It’s A Wonderful Life, as presented by the Dewdney Players. There will be eight shows during this stretch – 11th, 12th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 24th, 25th, and 26th – all starting at 7:30 p.m.
